The DOCSIS® standard was created for high-speed data transmission via cable television networks. With the newest specification DOCSIS® 3.1, speeds of up to 10Gbit/s downstream as well as 1Gbit/s upstream can be reached.
GM Grandmaster CMTS Cable Modem Termination Systems
M Master port DTP DOCSIS Timing Protocol
S Slave port CM Cable Modem
BC Boundary Clock
To achieve this speed, DOCSIS® 3.1 requires, among other, an absolutely accurate time synchronization of the network components. To this end, a grandmaster with IEEE1588v2 (Precision Time Protocol) is used in connection with the ITU G.8275.1/2 telecom profile. The time synchronization server DTS4160.grandmaster by Mobatime fulfills all of those requirements.
• PTPv2 as per ITU G.8275.2 unicast IPv6
• SyncE (Synchronous Ethernet) as per ITU G.8262/Y1362
• NTP (Net time protocol)
In case of a loss of the time source (GPS), the integrated oscillator ensures a continuous high time accuracy. The DTS4160.grandmaster is available with three different oscillators:
• OCXO oven controlled oscillator
• DOCXO double oven controlled oscillator
• rubidium atomic clock
Safety: The time server DTS 4160.grandmaster is equipped with a redundant power supply and can be connected to a second DTS 4160 for completely redundant operation
